President presents Padma Shri Award to Prof Sosamma Iype
President Ram Nath Kovind presents Padma Shri to Prof Sosamma Iype for Animal Husbandry. She is a Director of Projects of the Vechur Conservation Trust, an NGO that works towards the conservation of the indigenous cattle breeds of Kerala – the Vechur and Kasaragod cows.
Professor Sosamma Iype (80) retired from College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy. She is an alumna of the alma mater belonging to 1958 batch. Her team including students launched an extensive search for Vechur cows in 1989. They have successfully revived the breed and was recognized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
